Useful Information

What are extensions?

Acrylic - using a liquid and a powder, this is painted onto the nail to create the enhancement. This is the strongest of the systems. Acrylic has a bad reputation for damaging nails, this is not the case, poorly trained technicians and electric files are often to blame for this.

Fibreglass - this system is a very fine natural looking system using a resin and mesh. Generally used on people not suited to acrylics.

Gel - gel is a UV activated system which creates a glass like finish. We offer natural, French and coloured gels.

What are wraps or Overlays?

The chosen system is placed onto your own length of nail which helps prevent your nails from breaking and creates a smooth polished finish.

Will having nail extensions weaken my nails?

The answer to this is no.

Your nails produce oils and moisture which slowly pass through the extension - but because they cannot escape as quickly, they seem weaker when first removed.

The effects of moisture build-up in the nail plate is seen when extensions are first removed. A moisture-enriched plate is more flexible, so the nail plates will be more flexible when enhancements are first removed. By the next day, the nail plates will return to their normal moisture level and the extra flexibility will disappear.

Unfortunately, some mistakenly interpret the extra flexibility- as nail plate weakness or thinning. They mistakenly believe the natural nails are weaker after removal of the enhancements.

Remember, this effect is only temporary. The extra moisture does not weaken the nail; it simply makes it seem more flexible. If the nails are truly thinner, it is entirely due to abrasion of the nail plate. Over filing and drilling makes nails thinner, not enhancements.
